A tip for membership inquiries, joining or renewing membership: Don't just turn up and expect Gary to be there. Always call first, or you may have a wasted trip.

Please Note: If membership is not renewed by end of April following AGM (that's at least nine months by the way!), you will cease to be financial. That means that if you decide to renew after April and before the AGM, you will have to pay the sub for a new member. Big difference in cost. No exceptions!

Voting Rights

There has been some discussion around membership and voting for the Orere Community and Boating Club.
The following should help to clarify the situation:
A bit of background
The law governing our club is the Incorporated Societies Act 1908.  Under that law we are required to have “Rules”, these rules are specified out in our constitution.  The law says what things we have to specifically have in our constitution, and we have all those things stated.  The law also says other things we must do just because we are a registered club covered by this law.
The constitution we have in pace today has been in place since it was filed on formation of the club as it is today back on 15 June 2007.  No changes have been made since then.  The constitution says changes can’t be made without the club voting on them at an AGM.
Membership and voting
The constitution has the following in it
Section 5 a) Member – any person on payment of the annual subscription may be approved as a Member of the …..
Section (missing a number) e) Voting – voting at General Meetings can be by voice or by show of hands unless any members request a secret ballot.
Section (missing a number) f) Proxies – A financial member may appoint a proxy….
This has had an interpretation to mean that a membership can only be for a person, so not a family or couple etc, and that person only has one vote.
So if a family wants to join they have to join each person to get more than one vote – or agree only one person joins understanding that person only get a single vote.
The membership fees have been set so as to make memberships fairly inexpensive, really only covering any administration fees we might have, with add-ons if you want keys for the boat ramp etc.  This means it's fairly inexpensive to have that voice and vote should a family want to.

If there are any further questions please feel free to address them to the committee - verbally or in writing - we will endeavour to respond to everyone.  Should any common themes come up we will address them through the magazine as above, and retain anonymity for the people who ask.

Fishing Contests
The club holds three regular competitions, on Labour weekend, Auckland Anniversary weekend and Easter. In addition, for club members only, a fishing contest runs throughout the year, with prizes awarded annually at the AGM.

Boating Essentials

There are a number of things that should be ticked off before heading out in your boat. Fistly, there is the equipment. You should have:

Personal Floatation Devices suitable for ALL on board - this is law!
Anchor
Bailer
Alternative means of propulsion - auxilliary motor, oars etc.
Signalling device - VHF radio, horn, flares, cellphone, torch, EPIRB etc.
Fire e
xtinguisher

Other useful items may include a first aid kit, boat hook, spare rope, spare fuel, extra knife and warm, waterproof clothing.

You should always let somebody know where you're going and when you expect to be back. If something does go horribly wrong and nobody knows you're out there, it could end very badly.

Get your copy of Rules for the Boat Ramp HERE. One of the regular issues is people parking vehicles by the BBQ. This area must be kept clear.
