Orere Point Library & Clinic
Clinic (left) and library (right)

Orere Point has its own library, located opposite the Orere Point Store on the corner of Orere Point Road and Howard Road. The building was constructed by a group of locals - Allen and Jack Du Feu, Stan Wickenden, Ron Johnston, Rod Baker, Stan Martin and Ben Gunn, and opened by Manukau Mayor Barry Curtis on October 19, 1985.

The library has some 1500 books in its permanent collection, and these are supplemented by a further 200 or so books that form part of a rotation system amongst other libraries in the Manukau precinct, ensuring a supply of fresh books on a regular basis. Because of the size of the library, it can be difficult to accept donations of books that are sometimes offered, but don't let this dissuade you. As the permanent collection becomes too large, a clean out takes place where books that have only rarely, if ever, been borrowed are removed and passed on to one of the local charity shops.

DVD's were introduced in 2008, and whilst this collection is slowing building up, any donations of new DVD's will be gratefully accepted. The library also has jigsaws, and as with DVD's, donations would be much appreciated.

The library is run by volunteers, is free to join, and the only prerequiste is that you must either be a resident or own a property at Orere, or be a regular visitor at the campground.
